Requirements: Someone home most of the time
Meet the Mississippi Puppies - Basil, Elvis, Jackson, Oyster, Pearl, and Swallowtail. They were born on August 29 and are a very mixed breed - 38% Dachshund, 25% Pomeranian, and the rest Cocker Spaniel, Golden Retriever and "other"! Mom is 13 pounds, and the puppies are on track to be "smedium" when full-grown, 15-25 pounds. They will be ready to go to their forever homes around Halloween! They will still be *babies* when ready for adoption so will be eating 3 or 4 times a day (every 4-6 hours) and will not even remotely be potty trained! A general rule of thumb is that a puppy can “hold it” for one hour per month of age, plus one. 8 weeks – about 3 hours. Adopters should expect that this puppy will need to go potty every 2-3 hours throughout the day with a longer stretch at night, but should expect to be up at least once a night for bathroom needs! Due to the high level of care and attention a newborn puppy needs, their foster will be looking for a home where someone is there most of the time, and the puppy will not be left alone for more than 3 hours at a time. Also, due to the nippy nature of new puppies, they may not be a good fit for families with children under the age of 5. Basil, Elvis and Swallowtail are a little more on the adventurous side while Pearl and Oyster occasionally wait for the siblings to take the lead. And Jackson falls right in the middle! However, these littermates are all very similar to each other in terms of both size and temperament; any potential adopters are encouraged to meet the entire litter to see if there is a in-person "love match" with a particular puppy!
Backstory: Their mom Magnolia was rescued from coastal Mississippi after her owner lost her home; she needed a safe space to have her babies so a family friend drove all the way from Savannah, to Pascagoula, up to North Atlanta. And Magnolia had her babies a week later! They are named after people, places and things associated with mom's home state.
