The Lion King puppies are now available for pre-adoption! Pictures don’t even do these little bundles of adorableness justice… they are teeny tiny (3-ish pounds at 7 weeks) with the whole range of tail length (Rafiki’s is long and curls over his back, Simba has a little nub, and everyone else falls in between) and ear projection – Shenzi being on the farthest end of the “most Yoda-like” scale. They will be small – mama Suki is a “small breed special blend” of Shih Tzu, Yorkie, Dachshund and Terrier – and we see some Chihuhua in these babies as well! Estimated adult weight less than 20 pounds. Mama Suki is a devoted caregiver and the puppies have been socialized with children (ages 8-teen) as well as other dogs. Rafiki and Nala are the most outgoing but they are all very active and playful! They will be able to go home in early February and will be eating 3-4 times a day – every 4-6 hours – and will not be potty trained! A general rule of thumb is that a puppy can “hold it” for one hour per month of age, plus one. 8 weeks – about 3 hours. Adopters should expect that this puppy will need to go potty every 1-3 hours throughout the day with a longer stretch at night, but should expect to be up at least once a night for bathroom needs! Small breeds = small bladders (but at least small messes too). Due to the high level of care and attention a newborn puppy needs, their foster will be looking for a home where someone is there most of the time, and the puppy will not be left alone for more than 3 hours at a time. These little bodies will not be able to withstand rough handling so would not be a good fit for families with young children.
